Democrat Barbara L'Italien Kicks Off Bid For State Senate Seat

May 24, 2014 04:04PM ● Published by Bill Gilman

Some folks thought the political career of Andover's Barbara L'Italien might be over when she was ousted by Jim Lyons in 2010, after four terms as a state representative.
Four years later, L'Italien is attempting to mount a political comeback, seeking the seat currently held by state Sen. Barry Finegold, who is stepping aside after four years to run for State Treasurer.
L'Italien will face a challenge in the Democratic Primary in September from Lawrence School Committee member Pavel Payano. The winner of that battle is expected to face off with Andover Selectboard Chairman Alex Vispoli, the only declared Republican in the race.
L'Italien officially kicked off her campaign for the 2nd Essex and Middlesex on Wednesday with an event at The Chateau in Andover.
