There is major renovation work being done in the former Rite Aid location at Heath Brook Plaza. A new restaurant will be calling the space home some time in the future.
A new restaurant will soon be occupying one of Tewksbury's most high-profile vacancies.
But just what the restaurant will be remains something of a mystery.
Community Development Coordinator Steve Sadwick confirmed this week that interior and exterior renovation work is being done on the former Rite-Aid Pharmacy space at Heath Brook Plaza on Route 38. He said the new tenant would be a restaurant but he did not know the name of the new eatery.
"I spoke with the Building Commissioner (Edward Johnson) and he said it definitely appeared to be a buffet (style restaurant) from how he saw the layout of the tables," said Sadwick. But he added said that since the town only deals with the contractor doing the work, it was unclear which restaurant it would be.
1st U.S. Realty represents Stop & Shop, which owns the 80,000 square foot plaza. Over the past few years, 1st US Realty has been aggressively marketing the property, looking for new tenants.
The plaza is already home to The Pushcart restaurant, as well as a Dollar Tree and Advanced Auto Parts.
