Tewksbury Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O'Connor.
The Tewksbury School Committee gave its superintendent of schools a complimentary year-end review at its Wednesday, June 18 meeting. In a report read by Board Chairman Brian Dick, O'Connor received a grade of "Proficient" in all four standards within the grading rubric -- Instructional Leadership, Management and Operations, Family and Community Engagement and Professionalism Culture.
Possible grades were Unsatisfactory, Needs Improvement, Proficient or Exemplary.
"Under your leadership, a shared vision for educational improvement and student achievement has been established," said Dick. "Dr. O'Connor, you have promoted sound educational practices and have successfully developed goals for professional development, resource allocations, strategic planning and budgetary considerations for the district.
"In summary, the school committee finds you to be an extremely dedicated professional. You are reliable, loyal and a true friend to the Tewksbury School District."
O'Connor, who is completing his fourth year as superintendent, thanked the committee for their positive review and said that while there have been positive accomplishments, there is work yet to be done.
"I think there are things I do reasonably well and things I need to work on and improve on," he said. "I need to do a better job at communication and get out to the schools more frequently."
Following the review, the committee unanimously approved a two percent pay raise for O'Connor.
According to the 2013 Annual Town Report, O'Connor earned $175,907.07 for Fiscal Year 2014, which ends June 30.
