A 54-year-old Lowell man with a history of sexual assaults, has been convicted in connection with a 2013 rape in Tewksbury.
Charles Shanley, a registered Level 3 sex offender, was found guilty of rape - subsequent offense and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, by a Lowell Superior Court Jury, for attacking a woman in a room at the Motel 6.
According to a report in the Lowell Sun, Shanley has previous convictions for indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older (1983) and aggravated rape and rape (1985).
Shanley met the woman at a local bar, bought her a drink, then took her back to a room at the Motel 6, where he assaulted her, according to the report.
Shanley is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 11 and, because of his previous convictions, could be sentenced to life in prison.
