Event Information: All library events below are intended for adults. Events are free, but registration is required. Register by calling 978-640-4490 x 205, emailing rhayes@mvlc.org, or visiting the library’s online calendar of events at www.tewksburypl.org. Events are typically held in the library’s first-floor Meeting Room. All events are sponsored by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library.

Device Advice: 1-on-1 E-Reader Help
Thursday, July 17, 10am-4pm

Book a 30-minute, one-on-one session with a library staff member to learn how to download free eBooks to your eReader (e.g., Kindle, Nook, iPad) from the library’s Overdrive digital collection and the brand new Massachusetts eBook project. NOTE: This event will be repeated on Thursday, July 31, 10am-4pm. If you’d like some “device advice” but cannot attend a Thursday session, please contact librarian Robert Hayes at 978-640-4490 x 205 or rhayes@mvlc.org to discuss an alternative date and time.

A Visit From The Middlesex Canal Museum
Thursday, July 17, 7pm

Join Bill Gerber, past president of the Middlesex Canal Association, to learn more about the canal’s rich history and its museum. The Canal, built between 1793 and 1803, and operational until 1853, was the ultimate superhighway of its day. Just 27 miles in length, it played a major role in the Industrial Revolution, and its success led to the building of the Erie Canal. Mr. Gerber will also take your questions and offer some insider tips for visiting. Limited to 100 seats.

Friday Night Film: Rio 2

Enjoy one of Hollywood’s latest DVD releases. Rio 2 is an animated comedy starring the voices of Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway. It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they’re hurtled from Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. A Visit From The Museum of Russian Icons
Tuesday, July 22, 7pm

Join Laura Garrity-Arquitt, Registrar of the Museum, to learn more about this incredible institution, which includes the largest collection of Russian icons and artifacts in North America. Spanning six centuries, the collection includes important historical paintings dating from the earliest periods of icon “writing” to the present. Mrs. Garrity-Arquitt will also take your questions and offer some insider tips for visiting. Limited to 100 seats.

A Visit From The Harvard Art Museum

Join Daron Manoogian, Communications Director, to learn about Harvard’s three art museums. The Arthur M. Sackler Museum holds world-renowned collections of Asian art. The Busch-Reisinger Museum is the only museum in North America dedicated to the study of art from German-speaking countries of central and northern Europe in all media and in all periods. The Fogg Museum is Harvard’s oldest art museum and is renowned for its extensive holdings of European and American art from the Middle Ages to present day. Mr. Manoogian will also take your questions and offer some insider tips for visiting. Limited to 100 seats.

Learn All About Antique Clocks
Tuesday, July 29, 7pm

Join Bob Frishman, owner of Bell-Time Clocks, for a free class on antique clocks. Learn about the history, styles, makers, values, collecting, repairing, and cultural importance of clocks. More than 100 projected images will illustrate familiar and unusual timekeepers from Frishman’s own collection and from more than 5,000 clocks he has serviced. A free informal “road-show” appraisal session will follow the class. Attendees can each bring one antique clock to be identified and evaluated. All appraisals will be verbal. The number of appraisals given may be limited due to time constraints and crowd size. Limited to 100 seats.

Join David Unger, Director of Interpretation at the Museum, to learn more about one of the Merrimack Valley’s most popular museums. An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the American Textile History Museum tells America’s story through the art, history, and sciences of textiles. The Museum holds the world’s largest and most important collection of tools, spinning wheels, hand looms, and early production machines, as well as more than five million pieces of textile prints, fabric samples, and costumes. Mr. Unger will also take your questions and offer some insider tips for visiting. Limited to 100 seats.
