UPDATED: Alleged Drunk Driver Blows Open Gaping Hole In Main Street Restaurant

An alleged drunk driver put an 80 square foot hole in the wall of the Jade East restaurant early Monday morning. The restaurant is closed as repairs are made.

A Dracut man is facing a variety of charges, including drunk driving, after allegedly losing control of his car and slamming it into the Jade East Restaurant, blasting a hole in the side of the Main Street eatery.

 Bryan Waruhiu, 21, of 64 School St., unit 101, was arrested following the crash, which took place around 4:30 a.m., according to a Tewksbury Police report. Waruhiu, who was treated for minor injuries, was charged with OUI-liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and giving a false name to the police.

No one was in the restaurant at the time Waruhiu allegedly crashed into it. But he accident did create an 80 square foot hole in the brick building, located at 433 Main St. The restaurant will be closed for an undetermined length of time while repairs are made.

Waruhiu was arraigned  Monday in Lowell District Court. He was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty. He is due back in court Aug. 27.
