Police Log: TPD Searching For Man Who Robbed Liquor Store At Knifepoint

The robbery took place Monday, Aug. 4, just after 9 p.m.
Officers responded to a 911 call from a store clerk who said he had just been robbed by a man brandishing a knife. The clerk described the suspect as being a white male in his late 20s. He said the man was average height and was wearing a red tee-shirt and black pants, as well as wearing a black mask and gloves.
According to Tewksbury Police, no surveillance footage from the liquor store or from neighboring businesses was available to provide an image of the suspect.
A search of the area, which included several officers and a K-9 unit, turned up nothing.
Report of a burglary yields warrant arrest
On Sunday, Aug. 3, at 6:55 p.m., police responded to a report of a burglary at an Otis Street home. The homeowner said his front door had been kicked in.
During the course of their investigation, officers learned that a person in the home had multiple outstanding warrants. Michael Varney, 26, 24 Otis St., Tewksbury, was arrested on warrants for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, larceny by check, possession of stolen property over $250 and possession of stolen property under $250.
