Aubuchon Hardware is in negotiations with DeMoulas to lease a portion of the space formerly occupied by Home Goods in Oakdale Mall.
Last September, that rivalry came to an end when the Westminster-based chain bought up Tewksbury Hardware when the owners decided to retire.
Soon, the two stores are expected to be merged into one store in a space significantly larger than either has now.
An executive with the real estate arm of DeMoulas recently confirmed that the company is in negotiations with Aubuchon about leasing the space formerly occupied by Home Goods in the Oakdale Mall. Home Goods relocated its Tewksbury store to Westford last year.
According to the executive, whose name is not being used because he is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, negotiations hit a bit of a snag because Aubuchon's feels the Home Goods space (27,000 square feet) is too big for its needs and does not want to least it in its entirety.
Rather, Aubuchon would like to see the space sub-divided so they could lease the portion they need.
The DeMoulas executive also stressed that because the real estate branch of the company is completely separate from the supermarket operations, the current power struggle and labor strife has no impact on any negotiations with Aubuchon.
Multiple calls to the media relations office for Aubuchon Hardware seeking comment were not returned.
