Holy Cross women's soccer freshman forward Aly Spencer of Tewksbury was named the Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week for competition from Aug. 25-31, as announced by the Association. Spencer is the first Holy Cross women's soccer student-athlete ever to earn national player of the week laurels.
Last week, Spencer's offensive performance helped the Crusaders earn two victories over LIU Brooklyn (Aug. 25) and New Hampshire (Aug. 28). Against LIU Brooklyn, Spencer recorded the 14th hat trick in Holy Cross history and added an assist to help Holy Cross claim the 5-0 triumph. She scored the game's first and second goals in the 13th and 27th minute, respectively, and assisted on the contest's fourth goal. Spencer notched the hat trick with the final tally in the 61st minute. The seven points in the game tie her for the third most by a Crusader in a single game. She is also the 11th different player in school history to register a hat trick.
Holy Cross (4-0) beat Bryant, 2-1, on Tuesday in double overtime. Spencer scored both goals in the win, giving her six goals and nine points through the first four games. Her point total is the most by a Crusader freshman since 2008, when Katherine Donnelly finished the season with 19 total points (8 goals / 3 assists).
