Benefit Breakfast Sunday At The Tewksbury Senior Center

The Friends of the Elderly will hold a Breakfast Benefit at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street, on Sunday, September 7th, from 7-11 AM. The menu will include: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, beans, toast and beverages. Items from the seniors’ yummy bake sale table will also be available for purchase. Tickets are available at the door and prices are as follows: $7 for Adults, $3 for Children under 12, and Toddlers free.
Due to the Labor Day Holiday, the next In-Take for the Upscale Consignment Shoppe will be held on the SECOND Monday of the month, September 8th, from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. Summer items will no longer be accepted. To increase the probability of sale, heavy winter items such as winter coats and sweaters should be brought in for Consignment NO sooner than October or November. Where did the summer go?
Residents are reminded that the State Primary Elections will be held on Tuesday September 9th from 8 AM to 8 PM. There will be no activities at the Senior Center on that day.
On September 10th, registered dietician Tricia Silverman, RD, LDN, MBA, will be holding a seminar on Nutrition at the Senior Center at 9:30 AM, titled “Longevity Gifts of Abkhazia, Vilcabamba & Hunza”. Tricia was named Young Dietician of the Year in Massachusetts in 2008 by the American Dietetic Association. This seminar is being run through a grant from the Cultural Council. Why not come down, enjoy a healthy snack and learn something new about nutrition.
Barbara Antinoro will be instructing a 10 week oil painting class beginning on Thursday, September 11th and ending on November 13th. The cost is $90 for 10 weeks. This class is limited to 10 participants and there are still a few spots available. Call the Senior Center and speak to Jan to sign up for this class.
The Senior Center will hold a dance featuring the musical entertainment of the Fred Manzi Band. The dance will be held on 9/12/14, starting at 7PM. Tickets are available in advance or at the door for $10 per person. We hope you will come down and enjoy yourself at this long awaited dance!!
Karen Orband, RN, will return to the Senior Center on Wednesday, September 16th at 10:30 AM for a one-hour “Diabetes Academy”. All are welcome to attend this information session. Ms. Orband is an engaging speaker, with lots of great information to share!
On September 17th, at 9:30am “What to Expect After a Total Knee or Hip Surgery, By: Andrea Mendes. Are you considering a total joint replacement surgery, but unsure what to expect? Please join us for this informational Q&A to find out more. Andrea Mendes is an instructor for UMass Lowell’s Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program. She will give a brief overview of the surgery, what to expect post-op and considerations for rehabilitation. See you there! On Wednesday September 17th from 9:30 to 10:30AM we will have a presentation on Total Knee Replacement and Total Hip Replacement. A brief over view of the surgery, what to expect post-op, and rehabilitation considerations will be discussed.
The Council on Aging Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 17th at 12:30 PM in the conference room. All are welcome to attend. The COA Board is looking for new members. Please contact Director Ashley Stuart if you are interested in joining this great team, dedicated to Tewksbury’s seniors.
The next foot care clinic will be held on Thursday September 18th. Call the office 978-640-4482 and speak to Jan to be put on a waitlist for this day or to book an appointment for October.
The Silverstones will hold its next monthly dance at the Senior Center on Friday, September 19th beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the door. Why not come on down and listen to the great big band sounds of our in-house band.
A Cootie Party will be held at the Senior Center on Monday, September 22nd, starting at 12:30 PM. This is a fun card game and everyone is invited to attend. Don't know how to play...come on down and we'll teach you.
The Friends of the Elderly will hold a YARD SALE at the Senior Center on Saturday, September 27th from 9 AM to 2 PM. Table space is available to the general public at $15 per table or two tables for $25. There will be 30 tables of treasures, a bake table, and luncheon specials featuring Chef Nick's corn chowder. The Yard Sale is held rain or shine. The public is welcome and admission is free.
DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center for an afternoon dance on Monday, September 29th. Those who obtain a ticket by September 24th will have lunch included in the $6 tickets price.
The public is reminded that the Senior Center’s Upscale Consignment Boutique and the Snooti Patooti Gift Shop have some great deals! All proceeds from the shops support the programs and activities at the Senior Center.
