Such was not the case for a local couple, who are facing a multitude of charges following a pursuit that began in Tewksbury and ended in Lowell Monday night.
Jason Bourgeois, 40, 20 Oregon Road, Tewksbury and Shaina McKenna, 29, 1 Waco Circle, Chelmsford, were arraigned this morning in Lowell District Court.
According to a Tewksbury Police report, the incident began when Dispatch received a call just after 11 p.m. from an employee of Jade East Restaurant 433 Main St. The caller said a couple had just fled the restaurant without paying their bill and provided a description of the suspects' car, a Nissan Pathfinder, and a license plate number.
Police ran a check of the license plate and it came back as belonging to a car reported stolen out of Billerica. Multiple officers began searching the area and the vehicle was located on Whipple Road. The driver of the car, later identified as Bourgeois, refused to pull over for the officer and fled at a high speed in the direction of Lowell.
Lowell Police were notified and the car was found abandoned in a driveway at 24 Dayton St., Lowell.
Police requested a K9 unit to help search for the suspects. A short time later, State Police located Bourgeois and McKenna walking in the breakdown lane on the southbound side of Route 495, where they were arrested.
McKenna is charged with receiving a stolen vehicle and larceny of less than $250 (related to the dine and dash).
Bourgeois was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, larceny less than $250, speeding, failure to stop for a police officer, reckless driving and a marked lanes violation.
