EPA Sutton Brook Update: Truck Deliveries Should Continue For Another Month

Sep 30, 2014 09:47AM ● By Bill Gilman

(Editor's note: The following information was submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency regarding progress on the Sutton Mill Disposal Site, also known as "Rocco's Dump, located off South Street.)

This summer, site work has progressed with the construction of the vertical barrier (subsurface wall) between the southern lobe of the landfill and Sutton Brook.  Waste on the Southern Lobe has been regraded in preparation for capping.  A large wetland replication area has been prepared for planting.

What residents should expect:

Truck deliveries of cover materials will continue on weekdays at least through October.  The rate of truck traffic will be similar to what has occurred up to this point.

It is expected that a 6 day per week work schedule will continue through October.  The daily schedule will continue to be roughly 7:00am – 4:30pm.

At the end of October, some site work will be suspended for the season.  Prior to that time, an update will be provided with additional details.

EPA anticipates holding a public meeting this fall (probably in November) to provide more detailed information on progress in 2014 and look ahead to 2015
