Tewksbury High exploded for five first-half touchdowns and rollowed to a 35-7 win over the Lancers on Saturday at Doucette Field.
Quarterback Brett Morris led the way for the Redmen. The junior threw for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Running backs James Hirtle and James Sullivan each ran for over 90 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Tom Casey added the other score.
The game had originally been scheduled to be played as a special Friday Night Lights game at Doucette Field but was changed to Saturday because of the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday.
The Tewksbury defense had another outstanding game. It took the Redmen one series to adjust to Lawrence's pas-happy offense. But after spotting the Lancers a 7-0 lead on a TD pass by Nelson Valerio (18-for-33, 193 yards), they held the visitors in check the rest of the way.
Morris tied the game quickly on a 53-yard touchdown pass to junior Adam Gajjaoui. On their next possession, Sullivan gave the Redmen the lead on a 68-yard scoring run.
An eight-yard touchdown run by Casey pushed the lead to 21-7 early in the second quarter.
But the Redmen were far from finished.
On Tewksbury's next possession, Hirtle broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run. Hirtle scored his second touchdown, this time through the air, when he hauled in a 53-yard scoring strike from Morris to push the lead to 35-7.
Tewksbury is back in action Friday night, on the road at Methuen.
