A spectacular trash truck fire in front of Bernard's Jewelers on Main Street shut down the road for nearly two hours on Tuesday.
According to witnesses, the Casella Waste Systems truck, a "dumpster grabber." pulled over in front of the jewelry store shortly before 2 p.m. At the time, there was a small fire near the hydraulic system behind the cab. The witnesses, who called 911, said the driver left the cab and tried to put out the fire out with a small extinguisher. But the fire quickly jumped to the cab, engulfing the truck in flames.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in just a few minutes, before the flames had a chance to ignite the gas tank.
Two police officers were dispatched to the scene, closing off about 300 yards of Main Street while the fire was extinguished and the area was cleaned up. Meanwhile, a tow truck specifically designed for large vehicles.

Arrests:

Additional Calls:
