Event Information: All library events below are intended for adults. Events are free, but registration is required. Events are typically held in the library’s first-floor Meeting Room. All events are sponsored by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library. 

Friday Night Film: Whitey – United States of America vs. James J. Bulger

Friday, October 24, 7pm

Enjoy a screening of one of the brand new award-winning documentary – Whitey: United States of America vs. James J. Bulger.  Number 2 on America’s Most Wanted list after Osama Bin Laden, James “Whitey” Bulger terrorized the city of Boston for years without ever being charged with so much as a misdemeanor.  Did the FBI and local law enforcement give his reign of terror over Southie a free pass?  Complimentary snacks and beverages are provided.  Can’t make it on Friday night?  This film will be encored on Monday, October 27 at 10:30am.

Tewksbury Talk: Explore The Cemeteries of Tewksbury with Kim Zunino

Monday, October 27, 7pm

Kim Zunino, President of the Tewksbury Historical Society, will explore cemeteries in Tewksbury in a multimedia presentation, focusing on gravestone symbolism and graveyard myths.  Kim, a member of the Association of Gravestone Studies, leads the Tewksbury Historical Society’s annual cemetery tours. Q&A after the talk.

Scary Talk: Paranormal Unwrapped with Shannon Sylvia

Tuesday, October 28, 7pm

Author Shannon Sylvia will discuss her book, Paranormal Unwrapped, with a focus on the existence of ghosts.  Shannon is a popular paranormal investigator who was a Season 1 cast member of Ghost Hunters International on SyFy and appeared in an episode of Paranormal State on A&E.  Her book explores the business side of ghost hunting, whether popular television shows are helping or hindering paranormal research, and how close the scientific community is in proving the existence of ghosts.  Q&A and book signing after the talk.

Tewksbury Job Seekers Network: How To Get The Most Out Of Networking with Kevin Willett

Guest speaker Kevin Willett will give his presentation, “How To Get The Most Out Of Networking.”  The presentation will help you improve your networking skills, as Kevin is “the most connected guy in the Merrimack Valley,” according to the Lowell Sun.  Kevin is the founder of “Friends of Kevin,” a Massachusetts networking group that brings together the business, non-profit, and artistic communities.  Networking after the talk.

Tewksbury Library Book Club: Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter

The library’s Evening Book Club will meet to discuss Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, a story of an almost-love affair that begins on the Italian coast in 1962, and is rekindled in Hollywood fifty years later.  Copies of this New York Times “Notable Book” is available at the Front Desk.  No registration is necessary.  New members are always welcome!

Crime Talk: The JFK Autopsy with Peter Cummings

Thursday, October 30, 7pm

Author Peter Cummings will explore the autopsy of President John F. Kennedy.  Peter is the Director of Forensic Neuropathology at the Boston office of the Massachusetts Medical Examiner.  Peter will discuss his work on “Cold Case: JFK,” a PBS NOVA documentary which explores what science can tell us about the JFK Assassination.  Q&A after the talk.

Friday Night Film: X-Men: Days of Future Past

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases – “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” a PG-13 rated sci-fi action film starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen.  The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.  Complimentary snacks and beverages are provided.  

Sports Talk: Catching Up With The Red Sox Who Won The 2004 World Series with Ian Browne

Author Ian Browne will discuss his book, Idiots Revisited: Catching Up With The Red Sox Who Won The 2004 World Series.  Ian is the MLB.com’s Red Sox beat writer.  His book, with a forward written by David Ortiz, tells the story behind the amazing 2004 Red Sox season, with extensive player interviews.  Q&A and book signing after the talk.


Tewksbury Job Seekers Network: How To Reframe Unemployment As An Opportunity with Joe Ryan

Guest speaker Joe Ryan will give his presentation, “Jobs, Careers, Lives and Futures.”  The presentation will discuss succeeding in our world of rapid and perennial change, with many successful professionals finding themselves in jobs and careers that bear little resemblance to the job they held 5 to 10 years ago.  Joe, owner of “Your Future Calls,” is a professional career and leadership coach, consultant, and workshop/seminar facilitator.  Networking after the talk.


Tewksbury Author Debut: Michelle Layne Discusses “Rules To Die By”

Crime Talk: A Local Cop Gets Justice with Dana Owen

Thursday, November 6, 7pm

Author Dana Owen will discuss his book, Shotgunned: The Long Ordeal of a Wounded Cop Seeking Justice.  Dana served as a Police Officer for 27 years in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, retiring as a Sergeant and the Armorer for the Massachusetts State Police.  He is the recipient of several police citations including the Metropolitan Police Medal of Valor, the highest honored awarded.  Q&A and book signing after the talk.

Steve Babineau, team photographer for the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox, will discuss his career and share some of his iconic images.  Steve is the owner of Sports Action Photography, a former Fleet Baseball Card photographer, and co-author of Black and Gold: Four Decades of the Boston Bruins in Photographs.  Q&A after the talk.

Beer Talk: Meet The Team Photographer for the Bruins, Celtics & Red Sox

Author Lauren Clark will discuss her book, Crafty Bastards: Beer in New England, from the Mayflower to Modern Day.  Lauren, founder of drinkboston.com, is a freelance journalist and former bartender and brewer.  Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, and Yankee Magazine.  Her book puts four hundred years of beer making in New England into focus with splashes of success and uncanny failures.  Q&A and book signing after the talk.
