To the Editor:
I've never written a letter to the editor before, but this is an important election.
The next state senator for our district will be someone from Andover. There are a couple of questions that need to be answered when I decide who to vote for:
1) How can someone who doesn't live in Dracut understand our town's diverse agricultural and historical character, and 2) which candidate will fight for our interests on Beacon Hill?
When I answer those questions, there is no doubt I'm voting for Alex Vispoli and I ask you to do so as well. There are many things I respect about Alex, but these two stand out. First, he's pledged to stand up for the taxpayer -- to make decisions transparent, and to make every dollar count.
Taxpayer dollars have a way of disappearing on Beacon Hill to satisfy special-interest groups and maintain the status quo. Second, he's an experienced advocate for business development. Small businesses are hampered by over- regulation and high costs, hindering them from hiring and creating new good-paying jobs. A supportive business environment will create a stable tax base in our community.
Vispoli has already successfully done this in Andover by establishing the Andover Economic Development Council. Dracut would benefit from his expertise once he is elected. A stable, growing commercial tax base is essential to preserving Dracut's character. It will provide jobs, increase local revenue, and will be the financial basis upon which we can support and improve our entire community -- schools, infrastructure, services and heritage. No matter which political party you belong to, I encourage everyone to exercise their right vote on Nov. 4. I hope you will join me in voting for Alex Vispoli.
