Ameen Kalkhoran and Connor MacLean made sure that the first playoff game to be played on the new Tewksbury High turf field was memorable.
A brilliant crossing pass from MacLean set up Kalkhoran for the game-winning goal with just 11 seconds left in double-overtime to lift the second-seeded Redmen to a 1-0 win over 10th-seeded Marblehead in a Division 3 North quarterfinal matchup.
Had the game remained tied after the second OT session, the winner would have been determined by penalty kicks.
Keeper Rafael Perez (six saves) recorded the shutout for Tewksbury. It was his seventh shutout of the season.
Just two years after Tewksbury had posted a winless season (0-14-4) and four years after being forced to "host" a playoff game at Malden Catholic because the Wynn School Field was a muddy quagmire, the Redmen advanced to the D-3 North semifinals on Wednesday, 5 p.m., at Manning Field in Lynn. Tewksbury (10-2-7) will take on the winner of today's quarterfinal between No. 3 Wayland and No. 6 Pentucket.
