Library’s Festival of Trees Opening Night This Friday

Event Information: All library events below are intended for adults. Events are free, but registration is required. Register by calling 978-640-4490 x 205, emailing, or visiting the library’s online calendar of events at Events are typically held in the library’s first-floor Meeting Room. All events are sponsored by the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library.

Festival of Trees Opening Night Gala

Friday, December 5, 6pm-8:30pm

Drop in and enjoy beautiful trees, refreshments and fun for the entire family as the library’s annual month-long Festival of Trees celebration begins.  At our Opening Night Gala, enjoy a free family concert with Mike The Hatman at 6:15pm and a free Christmas Concert with The Gentlemen Songsters, the official barbershop chorus of Lowell, at 7:30pm.  Children can also write letters to Santa in the Craft Room and participate in a fun scavenger hunt.

Author Visit: Abraham Lincoln & The Civil War with James Conroy

Tuesday, December 9, 7pm

Author James Conroy will discuss his new book, Our One Common Country: Abraham Lincoln and the Hampton Roads Peace Conference of 1865. In February 1865, Lincoln slipped quietly out of the White House and traveled south to Virginia to meet Confederate leaders on a steamboat at Hampton Roads. Their goal was a peaceful end to the Civil War.  James, a respected Boston trial lawyer, is a fellow with the Massachusetts Historical Society. Q&A and book signing after the talk for those interested.

‘Booked For Lunch’ Book Club Meeting

Hungry for new books? The ‘Booked For Lunch’ Book Club is for you! Come prepared to briefly discuss a book or two you’ve recently enjoyed reading. After everyone shares their recommended titles, staff will highlight some of the library’s newest books. Bring a brown bag lunch; the library will provide the beverages. 

Author Visit: Inside The JFK Assassination with Christopher Daley

Thursday, December 11, 7pm

Historian Christopher Daley, author of the upcoming Homicide in the Hub book, returns for his annual visit.  In this year’s multimedia presentation, Chris will recount the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in vivid detail, through the use of witness statements, photographs, diagrams, Chris’s own pictures and videos of sites in Dallas, and the famous Zapruder film. Q&A after the talk.

Friday Night Film: The Hundred Foot Journey

Friday, December 12, 7pm

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases – “The Hundred Foot Journey,” a PG-rated comedic drama starring Helen Mirren. The Kadam family leaves Indian for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory’s Michelin-starred eatery.  Complimentary snacks and beverages are provided

Saturday Night Film: And So It Goes

Saturday, December 13, 7pm

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases – “And So It Goes,” a PG-13-rated romantic comedy starring Diane Keaton & Michael Douglas.  A self-absorbed realtor enlists the help of his neighbor when he’s suddenly left in charge of the granddaughter he never knew existed until his estranged son drops her off at his home.  Complimentary snacks and beverages are provided.  

Author Visit: Tewksbury Psychotherapist Publishes Memoir

Tewksbury resident Priscilla Griffin will discuss her recently published memoir, Lifting The Veil. Priscilla is a psychotherapist with a successful private practice in Tewksbury. Priscilla’s book is an intimate portrait of her professional and personal journey.  She explores how her religious beliefs and approach to spirituality and psychotherapy evolved. Q&A and book signing after the talk for those interested.

Tewksbury Genealogy Support Group Meeting

Ian Browne, Red Sox reporter for Major League Baseball, will take your baseball questions and discuss his new book, Idiots Revisited: Catching Up With The Red Sox Who Won The 2004 World Series.  Learn the story behind the amazing 2004 Red Sox season and relive your favorite moments from that magical season.  Q&A and book signing after the talk for those interested.

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases – “Magic in the Moonlight,” a PG-13-rated romantic comedy starring Colin Firth and Emma Stone. Amidst the music, mansions and luxury of the South of France, the wealthy elite fall under the spell of a beautiful self-proclaimed mystic visiting with her watchful mother. Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood’s newest DVD releases – “A Merry Friggn’ Christmas,” a PG-13-rated holiday comedy starring Robin Williams and Joel McHale. Boyd Mitchler and his family must spend Christmas with his estranged family of misfits.  Upon realizing that he left all his son’s gifts at home, he hits the road with his dad in an attempt to complete the 8-hour road trip before sunrise.
