Tewksbury To Kick Off Christmas Season With Tree Lighting, Fairs And, Of Course, Santa

Dec 05, 2014 11:11AM ● By Bill Gilman
Tewksbury is preparing to kick off the Christmas season as only Tewksbury can -- with a full schedule of fun activities, Dec. 5-7, designed to put the whole family in the holiday spirit.
The festivities begin on Friday, Dec. 5 with the opening night of the Annual Festival of Trees, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Tewksbury Public Library, 300 Chandler St.
Businesses, community groups and non-profit agencies from throughout Tewksbury have decorated small trees in a unique manner. It's up to you, the public, to decide which ones you like the best and cast your votes! Voting will continue through the month of December.
But opening night will include more than just the trees! There will be refreshments and fun for the whole family, including a free Concert with Mike the Hatman at 6:15pm and Holiday Songs by the Gentlemen Songsters at 7:30pm. Both free events will be held in the Meeting Room.
Now, all that fun might have you working up an appetite. So you will want to go over to the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East St. for their Annual Pie Social from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be more delicious pies than you can shake some jingle belles at.
The Christmas fun continues on Saturday, Dec. 6. with a pair of wonderful church Christmas Fairs!
The Tewksbury Congregational Church will hold its fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 10 East St.
St. William's will hold it's Annual Christmas Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church hall at 1351 Main St.
All of these festivities lead up to the Grand Finale -- the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Tewksbury Library on Sunday, Dec. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The fun will include hot chocolate and cookies, carolers, entertainment, a megician, Lou the Balloon Guy, face painting, arts and crafts, marshmallow toasting by the fire, horse drawn hay rides/sleigh rides, Buddy The Elf, Santa and Mrs. Claus and, of course, the Lighting of the Town Christmas Tree at 5 p.m.
According to organizers, volunteers are still needed for the tree lighting ceremony. Students looking for community service hours are welcome. Call Cheryl Gay at or call 781-866-9892 for more details.
