Winter Weather Advisory; Mix Of Snow, Freezing Rain Could Spell Trouble For Commute

Dec 08, 2014 09:03PM ● By Bill Gilman
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Tewksbury and the surrounding area beginning at 7 p.m. Monday and continuing through 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Precipitation will begin this evening, likely in the form of snow. But according to the NWS, it will quickly chance to sleet and freezing rain overnight.
The total accumulation is expected to only be about an inch but there is also expected to be a thin glaze of ice on the roads in the morning.
The freezing rain is expected to change over to rain after 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The rain will be heavy, at times, and the winds on Tuesday will increase to 18 MPH with gusts up to 29 MPH. Total rainfall is expected to be about 2.5 inches.
The rain will continue into the evening with heavy showers possible. Some flooding is expected, according to the NWS.
Areas of western and Central Massachusetts are expected more snow than rain from the storm. Significant accumulations are possible in the Merrimack Valley if the track of the storm were to shift to the east.
