AAA Honors Two Tewksbury Police Officers As Safety Heroes

The 2014 AAA Southern New England Traffic Safety Awards Luncheon took place recently at the Wyndham Boston Andover Hotel in Andover. The Tewksbury Police Department was honored with AAA’s Silver Safety Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements in traffic safety and their continuing efforts to educate and protect the citizens of the community. Additionally, Officer Michael Newcomb and Officer Alysia Russo were honored as AAA Traffic Safety Heroes.
Officer Michael Newcomb was nominated for the award by Chief Tim Sheehan for his persistent enforcement of the seat belt statute and his constant assistance and commitment to identifying traffic and community safety concerns. Officer Newcomb has also been instrumental in establishing and maintaining the Department’s social media campaign to keep the community informed of traffic and community safety hazards.
Officer Alysia Russo was also nominated for the award by Chief Sheehan for her persistent enforcement of all motor vehicle statutes and her constant assistance and commitment to all of the Department’s yearly traffic and community safety initiatives, including the Bike Safety Rodeo, Safe Halloween, Helmet Safety Program, and the Child Passenger Seat Education Program. Both Officers have been an incredible asset to the Department’s Safety/Community Service Officer.
