Obituary: Helen E. Powers, 87

TEWKSBURY; Helen E. (Ward) Powers, age 87, recently of N. Andover, a former longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away at home at Bright View Assisted Living, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. She was surrounded by three generations of her loving family in her final days.
Helen was the beloved wife of Thomas M. Powers, who passed away on September 8, 1964.
Born in Cambridge on October 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Helen (Lynch) Ward.
Helen was raised in Cambridge, attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.
Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was employed as an Office Clerk, by the New England Telephone Company, later known as AT&T, where she worked for many years.
Helen resided in Cambridge, Arlington, and West Dennis until moving to Tewksbury in 1998.
During her years in Tewksbury, Helen was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by four daughters, Ellen M. Bent and her husband Russell, Kathleen A. Abrams and her husband Michael, Anne P. Cronin, and Marie T. Murphy and her late husband Stephen; one brother, Fred Ward and his wife Ruth; six grandchildren, Michelle Austin and her husband Scott, Thomas Bent and his wife Lauren, Katie Rey and her husband Justin, Andrew Abrams, Sarah Cronin and Timothy Murphy; five great grandchildren, Jake, Nicole, Abigail, Elizabeth and Maeve.
Helen was the sister of the late Joanne M. Convery.
Calling hours are Sunday, Dec. 21, from 2-6 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 22, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
