A 57-year-old Tewksbury man pled guilty last week to failing to register as a sex offender but managed to avoid jail time.
Gregory J. Clancey, 338 River Road, a Level 2 sex offender, was sentenced to two years probation by a Lowell District Court judge on Friday. Clancey's attorney had argued for the case to be continued without a finding.
According to a report published in the Lowell Sun, Clancey suffered a stroke in 2013 and moved to Tewksbury when he was released from the hospital. However, he failed to register with the TPD. Prosecutors made police aware of the situation and Clancey was charged in August, 2014, with failing to register.
According to the report, Clancey was originally convicted in 2001 of indecent assault and battery on a child, possession of child pornography, and posing a child in a state of nudity.
