(UPDATED) Election 2015: What If You Held An Election But Nobody Ran?

Tewksbury is starting to get geared up for the 2015 Municipal Election.
The voters are ready to talk about key issues like property taxes, education costs, state aid, the revitalization of Route 38 and the Tennessee Gas pipeline project.
The media is ready to provide full coverage, with articles, debates, one-on-one interviews, etc.
The only thing that seems to be missing are the candidates.
Through 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, just seven candidates had taken out nomination papers to get their names on the April 11 ballot. By comparison, there are 12 seats up for grabs.
To this point, the only potentially contested race is for the Board of Selectmen, as both incumbents and a potential challenger have all taken out nomination papers.
Two incumbents you won't see on the ballot are Shawsheen Tech School Committee member Mike Kelley and Planning Board chairman David Plunkett. Both have announced they will not be seeking re-election.
There is still plenty of time for candidates to get onto the ballot. Candidates have until Feb. 23 to return their completed nomination papers to the Town Clerk’s office with valid signatures of at least 50 registered voters.
The situation seems to swing the gate wide open for residents who had considered running for office but had previously shied away. 2015 is shaping up as the perfect year to take the plunge and serve the community.
