The Tewksbury High girls basketball team proved why it was the team no one wanted to face in the tournament.
The Redmen gave the unbeaten Red Raiders all they could handle and then some, before falling, 49-49, in a gut-wrenching quarterfinal matchup on Thursday.
No. 8 Tewksbury (13-9), which got 17 points from junior Emily Velozo, fought and clawed its way to a 21-19 halftime lead. Watertown (20-0), battled back to take a one point lead in the fourth quarter. The game was tied with just over four minutes to play before the Red Raiders were able to pul away.
Molly Robertson, Shannon Smith and Karalyn Gallella added 7 points each for the Redmen.
Division 3 North Sectional Quarterfinals

But with a berth in the semifinals on the line, Minuteman (16-5) found another gear and pulled away down the stretch for an 88-73 victory.
Senior Patrick DeCourcey made his final high school game memorable, leading the Rams with 22 points, including 5 three-pointers. Freshman Carmine Rogato added 16 points for Shawsheen (12-10), while sophomore Sean Hines chipped in with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
