This year, the event will be benefitting Strongwater Farm and the Tewksbury 9/11 Memorial.
Among the equestrian programs offered by Strongwater Farm is a fairly new program designed specifically for veterans dealing with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). To help with that program, the farm recently acquired a Gypsy horse named Cha-Ching that is presently being trained down south. He will arrive in Tewksbury this summer. Other programs are geared toward people who have sustained severe brain injuries and children who are autistic.
Overall, Strongwater Farm serves more than 100 riders each week. The programs are funded entirely by donations and grants.
Funds from the road race will also go the annual upkeep and maintenance of the 9/11 Memorial on Route 38 in front of the Tewksbury Public Library. The memorial, erected in 2005, is funded solely by donations and costs $5,000-$7,000 a year to maintain.
