BILLERICA – It was another successful trip to the SkillsUSA district competition for more than 200 students from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School on March 12.

In all, 211 students participated from Shawsheen with 80 of them bringing home medals. Fifty-six students advanced to the state competition and Shawsheen piled up 27 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 29 bronze medals. The school also produced two state officer candidates.

The highlights for Shawsheen were many.

Two girls, senior Taylor McNeil of Tewksbury and senior Jeannette Lavine of Bedford, won district gold for the second time, McNeil in medical assisting and Lavine in medical math.

Langone was his team’s mason while other members included sophomore Jonathan Murray of Wilmington, the carpenter, junior Matthew Galante of Billerica, the electrician, and junior Sean Walsh of Wilmington, the plumber.

A second team works foursome also medaled, bringing home silver behind a group consisting of senior Ryan Barnard of Billerica (mason), junior Thomas Ferraro of Billerica (electrician), sophomore Brian Pelleriti of Billerica (carpenter) and senior Daniel Feyler of Wilmington (plumber).
