BU12-2 6 - Wakefield 0
The Tewksbury Boys U12-2 team got their season off on the proper foot with a convincing 6-0 victory over Wakefield at Frasca Field. Logan Teixeira got the scoring started, after taking a great pass from Andrew Della Piana, The young Redmen were off and running.. Alek Cranston, Jake Pelletier and Nick Pollimeno played solid defense, thwarting any attack Wakefield put forth. Sam Barbagallo, received a pass from Luke McFadyen, made no mistake putting the shot far post for a 2-0 lead. Tewksbury dominated the midfield, thanks to Justin Rooney, Will McFadyen, Travis Cohen, Logan Teixeira, Timmy Sweeney and Luke McFadyen, as the ball movement kept Wakefield on their heels. Jake McDonough was not too busy, thanks to his defense, but made 2 key saves when called upon.
Tewksbury knew the importance of the third goal, and did not disappoint. Barbagallo got his second goal of the game, with help on a great individual effort by Justin Rooney; who had a great all-around game. Tewksbury took complete control moments later as Della Piana sent Luke McFadyen streaking, Luke deposited the ball in the back of the net for a 4-0 advantage. Tewksbury continued to dominate the defensive end as Eric Impink entered the game (after getting a tooth pulled), combined with Cranston, Pelletier, and Pollimeno to keep Wakefield off the score board. Any ball getting on goal, was handled by Timmy Sweeney in goal.
Cohen, Barbagallo, Rooney, and Will McFadyen continued to pepper the Wakefield defenders with their ball movement. Jake McDonough beat this defender, and played a picture perfect pass to Rooney who put the one timer just wide which would have been a highlight reel goal. Della Piana wanted his third assist of the game, and Luke McFadyen (second goal of game) took the pass and beat the goalie for a 5-0 lead, giving the playmaker Della Piana his 3rd assist on the day. The game would end 6-0 as Will McFadyen took a direct kick from about 20 yards out, and as only Will can do, bent the ball near post to cap off a near perfect start for the U12-2 boys team.
GU12-3 Tewksbury 3 - Wakefield 0
Each member of the GU12-3 team had a piece of this week's win. Defensive backs Christina Wentworth, Megan Boudreau, and Michelle Hinkle all excelled at stepping up to cut off the offensive advances, while Isabel DeSisto and Ashley Talbot fended off out any sideline opponents. Middies Aliana Kennon, Maci Chapman, Erica Hinkle and Makenna Rosberg all showed great hustle in getting to the loose balls. Forwards Catalina Burke, Alex Fowler, Abby Hansbury and Jess Scholl. Goaltending duties rotated between Erica Hinkle, Michelle Hinkle and Aliana Kennon, with all 3 making great saves to keep Wakefield off the scoreboard. Tewksbury scored 2 goals in the first half. The first goal was put in by Fowler off a feed by Burke. Fowler also scored the second goal off of a rebounded shot by Chapman, putting Tewksbury up by 2 at the half. The last goal was scored by Hansbury off an assist from Fowler. Great teamwork to start the season!
