NORTH ANDOVER - Catherine "Katie" Pawluk died peacefully on May 5, 2015, in North Andover, MA. Born Catherine Louise George on October 20, 1912 to Raymond and Helen George in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, she was the eldest of six children. She had a wonderful childhood strongly influenced by the loving care, guidance and entrepreneurial success of her Italian immigrant grandfather whom she adored. Katie's outgoing style and vivacious personality led her to study theater at Emerson College in Boston. After graduating in 1936, she answered an ad to direct a play and met playwright, Carroll Moore, to whom she was married for 40 years. Because of Carroll's writing career in television and on Broadway, they lived most of the time near New York City and occasionally in Hollywood, CA. Katie and Carroll had one daughter, Helen. After Carroll passed away in 1977, Katie remarried at age 69 and had twenty wonderful years with Eugene Pawluk. They moved to Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, MA, in 1999. Katie's final years were spent at the Meadows Health Center at Edgewood where she was treated lovingly by nurses and caretakers. Those who knew and loved her enjoyed an upbeat, funny, somewhat saucy, and very feisty, Katie. Perhaps her most important legacy is a sincere love of people without discrimination and a deep caring for those less fortunate. When asked her secret to long life, she would say, "Accept what happens and be grateful every day."
Katie is survived by her loving family; daughter, Helen, and son-in-law, Raymond Goodman, two grandsons Ray and his wife, Barbara Goodman, David and his wife, Jodi Goodman, four great grandchildren Raymond, Lindsay, Nathan, Nicholas, and several nieces and nephews. A private burial will be held in Medfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katie's memory to Merrimack Valley Hospice, or to a charity that helps the poor and needy.
