Senior Center Introduces New 50+ Fitness Class

If you would like to help to build the float Friday May 22nd starting at around 9AM for the Memorial Day Parade please sign up at the Senior Center.  Coffee, donuts and pizza will be served as a token of our appreciation.  Sign-up sheets are also available to participate by riding or walking the parade route with the Senior Float.  We hope to see you there.

Tickets are now available for the following trips:

June 17, 2015: Hampton Beach, Continentals. $15 per person

July 8, 2015: Fosters Lobster, Isle of Shoals.  $97 per person

July 22, 2015 Boston Duck Tour, Lunch at Fire & Ice. $62 per person

Aug  19, 2015 Essex Steam Train, Connecticut River. $89 per person

The next foot care clinic will be held on Thursday May 21st.  At this time that clinic is full.    Call the office 978-640-4482 and speak to Jan to be put on the waitlist or to be scheduled for a future date.

Please note the following correction to the May calendar in the monthly newsletter.  "The senior center will be open on May 22nd, however the administrative staff will be unavailable."

The Silvertone’s will hold its next monthly dance at the Senior Center on Friday, May 22nd beginning at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the door. Why not come on down and listen to the great big band sounds of our in-house band.

The Senior Center will be closed on Monday May 25th, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday, but remember you can join us at the parade!

The Red Hat Carnation Belles are planning a trip to Casablanca By the Sea in Portland Maine on Tuesday June 16, 2015.  The trip features Portland’s Island/Seal Harbor Cruise, Old Port Visit, and Clambake Restaurant Luncheon.  Departure from the Senior Center is 9AM and the total cost is $69.00 per person and checks are payable to Fox Tours.  Deadline for tickets is May 20th.

The men’s group will be meeting on Thursday May 28th at 9AM at the Senior Center.   All men 60+ are welcome.

New on June 2nd we will be introducing our new “50’s And Fit” exercise class.  This fitness class is for individuals who cannot come to the classes we offer during the daytime hours.  Those aged 50 through 60 years old and those aged 60+ who are still working are welcome! The class will be on Tuesday Evenings from 5 to 6PM.  Class includes cardio, stretching, strength training, yoga and ends with meditation so that you can go home relaxed and get a good night’s sleep.  The cost is $3 per class.  You must bring your own yoga mats.  The class is taught by a certified instructor.  Why not come down and try it out!  Contact Jan Conole if you are interested in signing up at 978-640-4482.

The Upscale Consignment Boutique will hold its “Intake of Items Day” on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 2- 6 PM.  The Boutique is open during intake and is a good time to shop and you just never know what you will find. New consignors are always welcome!

The next Parkinson’s Support Group meeting will be held on Friday June 5th from 9:30 – 11:00 AM  at the Senior Center.  This group is open to all ages so please come and join us for this group.  This group is intended for those with Parkinson’s disease and those individuals may be accompanied by a loved one.  There will be refreshments served.

There are EXCITING NEW PRODUCTS in our gift shop.  Burt’s Bees, Periwinkle Jewelry, Melissa and Doug children’s toys and some accessories to show your Red White and Blue.  Stop by to check us out!

On Wednesday, June 10, 9:45-11:00 Tricia Silverman RD, LDN, MBA will be presenting on the Secrets of the Okinawans.  Discover the nutrition and lifestyle strategies that have helped the Okinawans enjoy the world's highest population of centenarians (those living at 100 years of age or older). Join her as as she shares healthy practices that can help you boost your health and perhaps add healthy happy years to your life! See shocking amounts of sugar in common American foods, and learn how decreasing processed foods in the diet can contribute to longevity.

A breakfast benefit hosted by the Friends of the Elderly, will be held on Sunday June 14th  from 7:30-11:00AM at the Senior Center.  All proceeds from this breakfast will be used to benefit the Senior Citizen participation in the Memorial Day Parade. Menu will include: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, homefries, toast & beverages.  Adults are $8, children 6-12 are $4; Children 5 and under are free. Public Welcome!

On June 15th  we will be having a Cootie Party at 12:30PM.  This game is lots of fun and open to everyone to play!

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center for an afternoon dance on Monday, June 29, 2015.  Those who obtain a ticket by June 24th will have lunch included in the $6 ticket price.
