Marina Duffy, freshman at Shawsheen Tech

Welcome to our new weekly feature, "I Am Tewksbury!"
Each week we shine a spotlight on a young person who has done something to make their family, school or community proud.
This week, we spotlight Marina Duffy, a freshman at Shawsheen Tech. For being featured, Marina will receive two passes to Altitude Trampoline Park in Billerica!
Marina is a talented young lady with a heart for helping others. In fact, while she is learning culinary arts at SRTHS, she plans to one day be an adjustment counselor, helping teens in need.
Marina was nominated by her father, who had this to say about her.
Marina is a 15-year-old freshman at Shawsheen Tech.  Marina is a hard working kid and also has never had to be woken up or reminded to do her homework.  She is a dedicated student and always looking to stay after school to do extra work or get extra help and the effort has really paid off.   Marina is on the high honors list at the Tech for the last 2 terms and was an honor student in the 1st marking period.
Marina has been teaching swimming at the Lawrence Y since last July and gives up her personal time teaching inner city youth life saving swimming skills.  Marina teaches at the Y Monday nights and Saturdays after school and will be volunteering this summer full time teaching at the pool.  Her story is so compelling the Y recently asked Marina to write "Her Y Story" as part of an application for a large grant from a foundation.
At the Tech marina is in the culinary program.  Also in school Marina was a freshman on the swim team and showed improvement every week.  She continues to work hard in the pool honing her skills 2 days a week in the off season.  Even more impressively, each year at the Tech students are nominated by the teachers for their prestigious Citizenship Award.  As a freshman Marina was awarded not one but two Citizenship awards.  Winning one is an accomplishment, winning 2 is a rare feat and quite an honor.
Marina has decided to take her experiences working and volunteering at the Y, her love and appreciation for the teachers and guidance counselors at the Tech and her culinary skills to become a guidance counselor/school adjustment counselor with a focus on a healthy eating and living lifestyle.
