Lowell General Hospital Sponsors ALIVE by Photographer Kim Hak at Ayer Lofts Art Gallery in Lowell
LOWELL, MA – Lowell General Hospital announced today that it will sponsor the upcoming exhibit ALIVE featuring photographs by artist Kim Hak this June at the Ayer Lofts Art Gallery, 172 Middle Street in Lowell, Massachusetts. ALIVE is Hak’s personal concept to reveal the intimate memory of old photos and usual objects entrusted to him by local Cambodian families, forty years after the Khmer Rouge Regime. The artful and reverential way in which the objects are photographed reveals insights into their preciousness - often secured and sequestered through the horrible years of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979.
“All these photographs and objects are deeply significant,” Hak says. “They are evidence of the past time in history. War can kill victims, but it cannot kill memory of the survivors. The memory should be alive, known and shared for the current research of human beings, and the preservation of heritage for the next generations.”
ALIVE will be open from noon to 4:00 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday during the month of June, beginning Saturday, June 6 and running through Sunday, June 28, 2015. Proceeds from the sale of each of the 12 pieces, which range from $500 to $1,000, will benefit the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE and the Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital in Cambodia.
