Redmen Destroy Arlington, Advance to D-2 North Semis

Jun 08, 2015 11:13AM ● By Bill Gilman
Now that the Tewksbury High softball team has eliminated the entire city of Arlington from the Division 2 North Sectional, it's on to the semi-finals.
After dispatching No. 5 Arlington Catholic in the first round of the tournament, the No. 12 Redmen followed up on Sunday by destroying No. 4 Arlington High, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore pitcher Adrianna Favreau, who seems to be getting stronger with every game, tossed a two-hitter and led the offense with a three-run homer in the third inning.
Junior Nora Butler added a three-run bomb of her own in the top of the sixth to blow the game open. Arlington (16-6) scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tewksbury managed just five hits but took advantage of poor fielding and wild pitching by Arlington. Leadoff hitter Erin Walsh reached base three times for the Redmen on two singles and a hit batsman.
For TMHS Coach Leo DiRocco, the win was the 350th of his storied career.
For Tewksbury (12-10), the victory is another step toward defending its North Sectional championship. The Redmen are scheduled to take on top-seeded Reading High (19-3), in the semifinals, Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Martin Field in Lowell. That game will immediately be followed by Swampscott and Burlington meeting in the other D-2 North semifinal.
