The Annual Tewksbury Bike Safety Rodeo was held Sunday at Tewksbury Memorial High School. Sponsored by the Tewksbury Police Department and Tewksbury Rail Trails, the family-friendly event is always well attended.

Nearly 100 children made their way through the bike safety obstacle course. Students from Tewksbury Memorial High School and Rail Trail volunteers explained bike safety tips and rules such as stopping at a driveway and making sure a driver sees you, and avoiding obstacles.

Community partners had booths with information and fun giveaways for the families. Hannaford brought bike safety reflectors, Lowell General brought sunscreen and outdoor safety information, the Tewksbury Police Department checked helmets for a safe fit, AAA of Southern New England pumped up tires and checked bike brakes, and Tewksbury Rail Trails had information about the planned multi-use trail in town.

Even the Lowell Spinners Canaligator got in on the act and delighted the crowd. Additional booths included Altitude Trampoline Park of Billerica, MVP of Tewksbury, the Merrimack Valley Reserve Corps, Tewksbury Fire Department, Securaserv and Community Teamwork.

Ray Barry, Chairman of the Tewksbury Board of Health was on hand giving CPR demonstrations, and pizza was donated by Wicked Cheesy, Selectman Mark Kratman, and Walgreen’s provided face painting and water. DJ Maria Hamm took care of the music and fun with a sound system donated by Big Top Tent and Party.

The Bike Rodeo organizers would also like to thank those businesses that donated raffle items this year including RTN Credit Union, Enterprise Bank, Tewksbury Police Athletic League, Tewksbury Patrolman’s Union, Superior Officer’s Union, Tewksbury Credit Union, Tewksbury Fire Fighter’s Union, Walmart, Tewksbury Rotary, and Tewksbury Public School’s Office of Community Services, Push Cart Café, Orange Leaf and the Greater Lowell Health Alliance.
