The Reading High softball team didn't come into the Division 2 North Sectional for no reason.
The Rockets unloaded the heavy artillery and slammed Tewksbury High, 9-3, in a showdown at Martin Field in Lowell, Tuesday.
The 12th seeded Redmen (12-11) had started the tournament with upset wins over Arlington Catholic and Arlington High. But against Reading, Tewksbury was overwhelmed from the outset.
Tewksbury starting pitcher Adrianna Favreau was uncharacteristically wild, walking four batters in the first inning. Reading took full advantage, scoring seven runs to blow the game open early. The big blow was a three-run double by Ali O'Leary.
Reading (20-3) added two more runs in the second to make it 9-0.
Favreau ripped an RBI double in the third inning to get Tewksbury on the board.
The Redmen added two more in the top on the seventh.
Erin Walsh went 2-for-4 to lead the Tewksbury offense. Nora Butler had a pinch hit double and added a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Reading advances to the Division 2 North title game on Sunday against Swampscott.
