Selectmen Honor Graduates Heading Into The Military

Jun 16, 2015 02:39PM ● By Bill Gilman

The Board of Selectmen honored recent high school graduates Justin Lacau, Brendan O'Connor, Jake Cuniff, Lucas Therrien, Henry Roberts and Joshua Kinney on their decision to enlist in the military.

While many recent high school graduates will be heading off to college in the fall and some will be entering directly into the work world, a third group has chosen a less travelled road.
At the start of its June 9 meeting, the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen took time to honor six young men who have made the decision to enter military service.
With family members looking on from the gallery, Justin Lacau, Brendan O'Connor, Lucas Theisen, Jake Cuniff, Henry Roberts and Joshua Kenney each received a citation from the board on behalf of the town.
"It is an honor for all residents of tewksbury to have among us young men and women like you who are inspired to serve and protect our country during times of conflict," the citation read, in part.
Lacau has enlisted in the Army, Cuniff has enlisted in the Coast Guard, while O'Connor, Kenney, Theisen and Roberts have each enlisted in the Marine Corps.
This is the second year Selectmen have honored new enlistees.
"We feel, collectively, that is something we should honor, respect and recognize as a community," said Todd Johnson, chairman of the board. "So we, in a very small way, tonight want to recognize those six individuals we are aware of
here in Tewksbury, take a few minutes to thank you for your volunteering to (enlist). Because that is a tremendous step to take to serve your fellow citizens, especially in time of conflict."
