People You Know: Loretta Ryan Of Altitude Trampoline Park

Jun 17, 2015 03:30AM ● By Hollie Gonzalez

Loretta Ryan of Altitude Trampoline Park.

Have you ever met someone that has left that forever impression in your head?
Well, I just did.  Her name is Loretta Ryan.
Loretta has lived in Tewksbury for the past 13 years. She is a mom of three.  She is on the PAC at the high school.  She is a huge community activist.  She is on the recycling committee, and helps run the Zero Waste Day here in town.
Besides all that, yes there is more, she is the Marketing Director and creative genius at Altitude Trampoline Park in Billerica.  I had the opportunity to go to the indoor trampoline park and meet with her.  She comes at you like a rolling ball of thunder and never stops spitting out ideas and thoughts.
Hollie Gonzalez - For those of us who don't know, what is Altitude?
Loretta Ryan - It is 30,000 square feet of fun and family entertainment.  It is an indoor trampoline park that has been here in Billerica now for 1 year this past May.  Anyone from the age of 2 years to infinity can come and enjoy themselves here.  It is really physical fitness without even knowing it.  There are no video games here.  It is all physical activity.
HG - What makes you different from the Sky Zone franchise?  (there is one in Everett, MA)
LR -  We have walk on/ walk off accessibility to the trampolines.  There are no stairs to contend with and all the views of our areas are unobstructed.  Parents can join their children, or watch from the sidelines and enjoy some adult conversations while the kids safely play.  We also have a rock climbing wall with different difficulty levels, and a foam pit jousting area.  There are trampoline basketball areas as well.  We have a giant well lit parking lot with easy access in and out of our facility. (they are located in the old Office Max parking lot at 700 Boston Road)
HG - You mentioned safety, can you elaborate?
LR -  We are very heavily staffed at all times.  There are eyes and ears every where.  We have cameras in all areas and someone constantly monitoring them.  All our staff is expertly trained and know what to do in case of an emergency.  Everyone who works here is CPR certified and all know how to use the defibrillator we have in house if ever needed.  We have several levels of protocol here.  Also, we make sure that the younger children are never in a situation where they are on the trampolines with older kids or adults.  We get quite busy here, especially on the weekends.  There is a lot of whistle blowing going on, but it is all for the safety of our guests.
HG - Are all the staff from local towns?
LR - 90% of our employees are from Billerica, Tewksbury, Burlington, & Wilmington.
HG - Are most of the patrons local?
LR - Of course we have a lot of local guests, but we have patrons from all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
HG - You used to work for MVP in Tewksbury.  Why the move to Altitude and Billerica?
LR - I left them on a very friendly basis.  Two of the owners are friends of mine.  I worked there for 2 years before Maria Dankens took over my role there.  I had a new opportunity and I took it.  I needed more and I am so full of ideas and Altitude has provided me with some great opportunities so far and I know there are more to come.  We work in conjunction with each other.  We have the same age group clientele, but we offer two very different styles of family entertainment.
HG - Why did Altitude choose to open up in Billerica?
LR - Frankly, there was a need.  There was a need for a safe, family friendly indoor facility in this area.  We all know the winter we just had was pretty difficult and for outdoor activities, it was just downright rotten.  We were able to fill that void for a lot of people.  We provide a place for physical fitness year round.  Altitude started in Texas.  It is a license that you get to open up, not a franchise.  With a franchise you are more limited to what you can and can't do and have to stay pretty tailored to the brand and what you can offer.  With us, you get a lot of creative freedom.  For example, we are going to have a carnival here in July.  Depending on the weather, it will be both indoor here and outdoor with the use of our parking lot out back.  There will be games, food, and it is all open to the public.
HG - What types of programs, parties and events do you offer at Altitude?
LR - Besides being able to come in and just jump, we do over 350 birthday parties a month!  We have all different types of packages from 10 kids to 40 kids or more.  We do corporate events, and host schools and camps from all over.  Right now we are enrolling for our Summer Fun Program.  It is for children ages 7 - 12 years.  There are different sessions throughout the summer and some of the activities will include organized dodge ball games, the foam pit, rock wall, and a scavenger hunt.  Check out our website at
HG - Do you have any fitness classes or exercise groups for adults?
LR - We have had a kids zumba demo, but it hasn't been the right time for any adult exercise type classes right now.  We are maybe looking into that for the fall and winter times.
HG - From a mom's standpoint, I look for clean places.  It looks pretty clean in here.  How do you go about keeping all this clean and sanitized?
LR - Everyday, all day.  We are constantly cleaning.  We basically have a full force army of employees that clean everything from the little rugs near the exits, to the bathrooms.  Everything is sprayed with disinfectant.  We have professional cleaners that come in and clean, sanitize and disinfect every weekend.
HG -  What do you say to all the people who call this type of facility "dangerous"?
LR - Our staff is trained very well.  We are trained to prevent what we can here.  We do not allow any horse play or excessive force.  We are always looking and watching for anything that could be considered dangerous.  We have some families that bring their kids here that actually have some disabilities and may not otherwise be able to go to a trampoline park.  We have that level of safety here.  We have that level of ease with parents.
HG - How does Altitude Trampoline Park pay if forward?  To Billerica and other towns?
LR -  We do tons of fundraisers.  We are always extremely happy to be involved in anything that helps kids and schools.  Right now we are part of the summer reading programs for a bunch of different towns where if a child reads so many books, they get a free pass here.  We have done family fun day in Burlington to the Lowell Boardwalk.  We just did a big family day at the Texas Roadhouse in Methuen.  Altitude has jump passes at local dentist offices in many communities.  We go anywhere at anytime.  We love to do it and people always respond so positively to us.  I believe in the motto "The Man that gives - gets."
Loretta Ryan is seriously one hardworking mom.  She does it all.  Just look at their Facebook page.  I asked around town and so many people know her.  Not only from Altitude Trampoline Park, but from around here in Tewksbury.  So many people adore her and have nothing but positive things to say about her both personally and professionally.  She is truly an amazing woman.  Altitude is lucky to have her there.  (and on a personal note Loretta, from me,  This "S" is for you.)
