Obituary: Alfred F. Hayward, 94

Alfred F. Hayward, age 94, a resident of Tewksbury for 59 years, passed away at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry, NH on Thursday, July 16, 2015.
He was the beloved husband of Beverly M. (Truckey) Hayward, who passed away on November 6, 1996.
Born in Milton, MA on May 21, 1921, he was the son of the late Norman E. and Ella M. (White) Hayward.
Alfred was raised in Gardner, Mass and attended Gardner schools.
Following his school days, Mr. Hayward enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served during World War II.
He was a longtime supporter of the Tewksbury Redmen Football Program assisting during home games on the sideline as a linesman.
He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Billerica Country Club. In addition, Mr. Hayward was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks # 2070, the Gardner Masonic Lodge and the Lowell YMCA.
In earlier years, he played semi-pro football for the “Gardner Merchants”.
He is survived by five children, Sandra M. Herrick and her husband John of Strafford, NH, Lynn Lewis and her husband Tom of Derry, NH, Alfred “Bud” Hayward and his wife Cathy of Townsend, Roy Hayward and his wife Karen of East Derry, NH, and Brian K. Hayward and his wife Kelly of Pepperell; one brother, Louis Hayward of Westminster; eighteen grandchildren, Jack, Chris, Kevin, Kim, David, Marie, Michele, Ryan, Katie, Kristen, Thomas, Jacqueline, Colin, Cory, Conor, Cameron, Sean, and Elizabeth; also numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hayward was the brother of the late Margaret Flagg, Nellie Stone, Barbara Kipp and Floyd Hayward.
Calling hours are Monday, July 20, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
