Elder Services Becomes the Administrator of the Merrimack Valley Nutrition Program

“Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley is excited to announce that as of Wednesday, July 1st they will be the administrator of the Nutrition Program. With the change comes a new food provider, Lindley Food Service, which has been selected as the caterer. As the new administrator Elder Services aims to keep the program as whole as possible, welcoming current staff members and volunteers to join the program. Along with long standing employees and volunteers, a new Nutrition Director, Derek Anderson, has been hired to oversee the program. Our focus is to provide great meals to elders through Lindley, supporting the staff to deliver excellent customer service and assisting our consumers with their needs! If you have any questions or concerns please, call us at 1-800-892-0890 and ask for the Nutrition Program Staff.”

Tickets are now available for the following trips:

Aug. 12, 2015: Essex Steam Train, Connecticut River $89 per person.  Second bus-tickets avail now!

Sept. 23, 2015 The Old Mill Restaurant & Tower Hill Gardens.  $71 per person

Oct. 14, 2015 Octoberfest, East Hill Farm.  $73 per person

New on June 2nd we introduced our new “50’s And Fit” exercise class.  This fitness class is now open to all ages.  The class is being held on Tuesday Evenings from 5- 6pm.  Class includes cardio, stretching, strength training, yoga and ends with meditation so that you can go home relaxed and get a good night’s sleep.  The cost is $3 per class, cash or check. Participants must bring their own yoga mats.  

Tickets are available for the Wednesday, August 5th Casino trip to Mohegan Sun.   The cost of this trip is $30 per person, which includes motor coach transportation, a casino package and the driver gratuity.

The men’s group will be meeting on Thursday July 23th at 9AM at the Senior Center.   All men 60+ are welcome.

We are excited to announce that the Elder Brown Bag Program will be coming to the Tewksbury Senior Center. This supplemental food assistance program provides a bag containing 3 days of food to eligible seniors.  The program is free of charge and you can pick up an application at the Senior Center, the Tewksbury Food Pantry or call Laura Marsan of Elder Services at 978-946-1303.

The Wamesit Lanes is offering Tewksbury’s seniors the opportunity to start a bowling league at their new state of the art facility opening this fall.  If you are interested in finding out more contact Kathy Walsh at kwbraelyn@verizon.net.  Thank you Wamesit Lanes for this wonderful opportunity.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center for an afternoon dance on Monday, July 27, 2015.  Those who obtain a ticket by July 22nd will have lunch included in the $6 ticket price.

Rep Jim Miceli will hold office hours on July 28th from 9:30AM to 11:30AM at the Senior Center.  Senator Barbara L’Italien will also have office hours on this date

The Upscale will hold its “Intake of Items Day” on Monday, August 3rd, 2015 from 2- 6 PM.  The Boutique is open during intake and is a good time to shop.  You just never know what you will find. New consignors are always welcome!

The National Night Out Against Crime will be held on August 4th at the Senior Center.  This event is put on by the Police and Fire Departments.  There will be a car show and cookout starting at 4:30PM and then a movie for the kids starting at 6:15PM.  Fun for the whole family!

The next Parkinson’s Support Group meeting will be held on Friday, August 7th at 9:30 AM – 11:00AM at the Senior Center.  This group is open to all ages so please come and join us for this group.  This group is intended for those with Parkinson’s disease and those individuals may be accompanied by a loved one.  There will be refreshments served.

Also on Friday, August 7th from 11:00am – 12:30pm we will have a seminar on Ayurveda Wellness and Healing at the Senior Center.  Ayurveda is the oldest medical system dating back 5000 years. It is commonly referred to as Yoga’s sister science. Understanding and applying Ayurveda principles empowers you to bring health, balance and harmony into your daily life. Join Kim Sardo and Lynn Connor, owners of Ayurveda Wellness Healing, LLC, for this fun and interactive free lecture as we explore Ayurveda through discussion and group activities.
