Bridgette Dodge, 24, was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court, charged with driving under the influence of liquor, failure to stop for a police officer and negligent operation.
A Lowell woman is facing multiple charges, including drunk driving, after allegedly hitting a Tewksbury Police Officer with her car early Friday morning.
According to Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan, the incident took place around 1:10 a.m., while the officer was working a construction detail at 85 Main St. The officer, whose name has not been released, was attempting to stop Dodge's vehicle and had to abruptly move out of the way as she failed to stop and drove right toward him.
As the vehicle passed, the driver’s side mirror struck the officer, along with the driver’s side window, which shattered from the collision causing the officer to be knocked to the ground.
Additional officers responded to the scene and placed Dodge under arrest a short distance from the accident scene.
The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
"By the grace of God my officer is doing okay. He is home sore resting but he will make a full recovery," said Sheehan. "I lost 10 years off my life when I took the call at 2 a.m. this morning."
