Whether your strictly a fantasy based fan, or you find yourself rooting for your favorite team while still rooting for the opponents quarterback for fantasy purposes, it is a great way to connect with the game. This weekend fantasy owners will see their hours of draft preparation finally pay off or fail. Or you could win some substantial pocket money by playing in one week fantasy contests on websites such as Draft Kings and Fan Duel.
Now we all know that players such as Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Rodgers, and Dez Bryant are almost sure fire twenty-point players for this weekend. Those players are a tough commodity to get and went high in your draft or come at a steep price. Here are five players with a lower price tag or that you found in the middle rounds that will help you score in week one.
Davante Adams: With Jordy Nelson suffering from a torn ACL, and Randall Cobb dinged up a bit look for Aaron Rodgers to target Davante Adams often. Last season, Adams was targeted 66 times and he finished with 38 receptions, for 446 yards, and three touchdowns. In only his second season, Adams will be a player on the rise this year.
Don't be afraid of taking a player on the same offense as an elite running back such as Eddie Lacy. The Packers have Aaron Rodgers, arguably the best quarterback in the game, they are going to spread it around.
Amari Cooper: In the preseason we saw some of the burst and speed that Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper possesses. The fourth overall pick in this past draft has unreal athletic attributes, and was a force at the University of Alabama. For the most part over the past ten years, the Raiders have been a waste land for good wide receivers, due to their lack of quarterback talent. No they have a promising young arm in Derek Carr. The Raiders will take on the Bengals in Oakland. The Bengals have a tough defense, but they are mostly effective at home.
Matthew Stafford: When you are the quarterback for a team with top tier receivers such as Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, you are bound to be a reliable quarterback in any fantasy league. This Sunday the Lions will travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers. The secondary in San Diego is average at best, and the Lions should be airing it out in the souther California weather. You can find Stafford at an affordable salary in one week leagues and in the middle rounds of most drafts.
Cam Newton: With Kelvin Benjamin out for the season, many have backed away from Cam Newton in fantasy leagues. However, Carolina drafted wide receiver/tight end hybrid Devin Funchess out of Michigan. In addition, they have reliable receivers like Tedd Gin Jr. and Jerricho Cotchery. Furthermore, the Panthers are taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars, which is always worth noting.
Jarvis Landry: Last season, the National Football League had one of their best crops of young receivers possibly of all time. Miami Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry was one of the best. With Mike Wallace and Charles Clay gone, he is the sure fire number one receiver. Look for him to have a big game Sunday against the train wreck Washington Redskins. Also, he can contribute on special teams.
