Tewksbury Memorial High School offers 10 courses for students who desire the rigor of Advanced Placement work. According to Karen Baker-O’Brien, Guidance Director at TMHS, “We have always wanted students to strive to achieve the best they could be”.
The nine in-house advanced placement courses are: Literature, U.S. History, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Micro Economics, Government and Politics, Statistics, and Latin. In addition Advanced Placement Psychology is offered online to TMHS students.
“We are using the online course provider Edgenuity. To provide this very valuable service to our students”, said Baker-O'Brien.
The students of TMHS are using 296 advanced placement slots at this point in the school year.
“We encourage our students to participate in AP courses because and/or Honors level courses," said Baker-O'Brien. "The more rigor the better their application is when applying to college. We encourage individual students to challenge themselves. There are assignments that go along with each of these courses."
According to Baker-O'Brien, Tewksbury High plans to increase Advance Placement offerings in the coming years.
“The new schedule structure we will use next year will allow us to potentially offer more AP courses for our students in the future," she said.
