TYSA Roundup: Redmen Squirt AAA Clobbers Needham To Open Season

The Tewksbury Jr. Redmen Squirt AAA Hockey Team

The Tewksbury Jr. Redmen Squirt AAA Hockey Team kicked off the 2015-2016 season with a convincing 7-3 win over the Needham Rockets in the Elite Division of the Valley Hockey League.
The Jr. Redmen came out flying and jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the game when Matthew Cooke split the 2 Needham defensemen & fired a nasty wrister into the top corner of the net, assists on the goal to Matthew Doherty. The Rockets battled back and controlled play for the next 4 minutes of the game but thanks to great defensive efforts from James Kierce and Cooper Robillard, and great goaltending from Megan Cunningham, the Rockets were unable to tie the game. The Jr. Redmen had a great chance to take a 2-0 lead midway through the 1st period when Nick Calouro fired a wrister off the left post. The Rockets tied the game with 3:28 left in the opening period on a pretty goal by big #10. The Jr. Redmen closed out the 1st period by scoring with 19 seconds left in the period to take a 2-1 lead when Conor Cremin used his speed to get to the Rocket net, firing a nifty wrist shot past the sliding goalie, assists on the goal to Matthew Cooke and Alex Sovie.
The Rockets came out flying in the 2nd period and tied the game 2-2 on an unlucky bounce in front of the Jr. Redmen net. The Rockets were energized by this goal and continued to put pressure on the Jr. Redmen but Megan Cunningham made a series of saves that had the fans from both teams cheering for her. The Jr. Redmen took a 3-2 lead on a powerplay goal with 2:44 left in the 2nd period when Brady Chapman fired a bomb from the top of the circle into the back of the net, assist to Conor Cremin. The Jr. Redmen increased their lead to 4-2 with 19 seconds left in the middle period when Joey Bourgea buried a one-timer from the right face-off circle, assists on the goal to Brady Chapman and James Kierce.
The Rockets once again opened the period with sustained pressure in the Jr. Redmen zone but Collin Strong and Alex Sovie each made outstanding defensive plays to keep the 4-2 lead in tact for the Jr. Redmen. The Jr. Redmen went on a scoring spree as they pumped in 3 goals in a 3 minute span. Conor Cremin got it started, scoring his 2nd goal of the game with 5:21 left in the 3rd period to give the Jr. Redmen a 3-goal lead, assists on the goal going to Brady Chapman and Matthew Cooke. That line connected again as Brady Chapman scored his 2nd goal of the game for a 6-2 lead, assists going to Conor Cremin and Joey Bourgea. Conor Cremin closed out the scoring for the Jr. Redmen as he connected for his 3rd goal of the game for the hat trick, assists on this goal going to Brady Chapman and Collin Strong. The Jr. Redmen closed out the game with solid defense from Robillard, Kierce, Sovie, and Strong and left the rink with a well-deserved win.
