Rams, Redmen Roundup: TMHS Golfers Upset Billerica, Volleyball Team Stunned By Chelmsford

Tewksbury 11.5, Billerica 8.5

In a MVC I - MVC II match at Trull Brook Golf Course this afternoon Tewksbury came up with a mild upset of a strong Billerica squad. The first group of 1's and 2's went in Tewksbury's favor with both individual matches being flatted and Tewksbury winning the Best Ball match 1 Up. Billerica's Brian Corbett won the ninth hole to pull out a hard fought Flat in his match against Tewksbury's Sam Canelas while Tewksbury's Owen MacEachern did the same against Billerica's Brendan Maloney.
With the Redmen winning the Best Ball match, the Redmen took the lead 3-2 after one group. The second group was split between the schools 2.5-2.5 with Billerica's Conner Sterin winning his match 4&2 while Tewksbury's Bill Giasullo won his match 4&3 while Conner Sterin & Larry Tang flatted Tom McKenna & Bill Giasullo in the Best ball match. After two groups the score stood at 5.5-4.5 in Tewksbury's favor.

  Group 3 would be the swing in the match that would earn the Redmen the necessary points to win the match. Tewksbury's Senior Jonathan Verrill and Sophomore Ben McKay teamed up to win the group 5-0 giving the Reedmen the lead 10.5-5.5. Verily won his match 2 Up while McKay won his 2&1 while the teamed to win the Best Ball 2&1.
Billerica carried the final group 4-1 to end the match with a 11.5-8.5 final score. Billerica's Michael Waldman won his match 3&1 while his partner DJ Fantasia and Tewksbury's Johnny Spinelli flatted their match while Waldman & Fantasia teamed up for a 3&2 Best ball victory rounding out the match. Tewksbury moves to 4-2 on the season and hosts Methuen tomorrow while Billerica hosts North Andover on Wednesday.

Girls Cross Country 

Tewksbury Freshman Invitational

Tewksbury High's Lily Robinson and Devyn Veits placed 1-2 in the Tewksbury Freshman Invitational meet.

Robinson finished the 3K course in 12:20, with Veits close behind in 12:36.

Lowell High won the team title.


Chelmsford 3, Tewksbury 0

Tewksbury High was unceremoniously knocked from the ranks of the unbeatens by visiting Chelsmford. The Lions were in control from start to finish, sweeping the match 25-17, 25-14, 25-10.

Nicole Petherbridge led the Redmen (4-1 with 7 digs and 3 kills. Delaney Chisholm has a strong game with 7 digs and 7 assists.
