Tewksbury leaps 7 places in new ESPN Poll
It might not been as big of a jump as players and fans wanted, and it definitely wasn't as big a leap as some in the media thought they deserved, but the Tewksbury High football team moved up 7 places to No. 14 in the state in the latest ESPN Boston Rankings.
Tewksbury, ranked No. 21 last week, blasted No. 7 Andover High, 29-12, Friday night at Doucette Field.
The Redmen will get another opportunity to prove they are for real on Saturday, when they play host to No. 4 Central Catholic.
Shawsheen Tech 28, Whittier Tech 14
Playing their first-ever home game under the lights before a raucous Homecoming crowd, Shawsheen Tech rolled past CAC Large rival Whittier, 28-14.
Quarterback Alex Tate tossed three touchdown passes to lead the way for Shawsheen (2-2, 1-0 CAC Large. Senior running back Craig Rich put the game away with a highlight reel 59-yard touchdown run late in the game."
Tate finished 12-for-16 for 162 yards and the three scores.
Shawsheen Tech 5, Mystic Valley 2
Christian Lucchesi had the hat trick, as the Shawsheen Tech boys soccer team rolled to an easy 5-2 victory over Mystic Valley in a Commonwealth Athletic Conference game on Homecoming Weekend.
The win put the Rams (9-1) into the State Tournament.
Senior captains Jake Lage and Scott Callahan had a goal and an assist each for the Rams. Zach Buckland chipped in with three assists.
