Rams, Redmen Roundup: Tewksbury, Shawsheen Golf Teams Both Win Championships

If you are going to win a league championship, you might as well win it in style!

On a gorgeous Thursday afternoon at Merrimack Valley Golf Course in Methuen, the Tewksbury Redmen visited the Rangers from Methuen and came home with a 20-0 victory, guaranteeing them the MVC II League Championship. 

With 1 league match remaining today at Mt. Pleasant Golf Course against Lowell High School, the Redmen stand at 7-8 overall, 7-6 in the MVC overall and 6-1 in MVC II play. Individual winners for Tewksbury on the day were Alex Froment 3&1, Johnny Spinelli 4&2, Ben McKay 1 Up, Jonathan Verrill 2&1, Bill Giasullo 1 Up, Tom McKenna 1 Up, Owen MacEachern 2 Up and Sam Canelas 3&2. 

It was the second straight shutout for the surging Redmen. On Wednesday, Tewksbury defeated Lawrence High, 8-0. Individual winners for Tewksbury were Rob Agruso 3&2, Brady Rodgers 3&2, Dylan Pendleton 2&1, Tom McKenna 4&3, Josh Asselin 4&3, Jonathan Verrill 5&4, Alex Froment 4&3 and Billy Giasullo with a spectacular putting display and a 3&1 victory.

Shawsheen Tech wins State Voke Championship

Shawsheen Tech Rams won their second State Vocational Tournament and first since 2010, at the Acushnet River Bend GC.

Matthew Paolicelli and Adam Clayton led the Rams to victory by firing matching 79s on the Par 72 course. Ryan Donnell shot 81 and Ryan Pigott shot 83 for Shawsheen.

Boys Soccer

Shawsheen 4, Nashoba Tech 2

Zach Buckland and Christian Lucchesi scored two goals each to lead the Shawsheen Tech boys soccer team to a win over Nashoba Tech in non-league action.

Lucchesi assisted on both of Buckland's goals for a four-point game. Buckland added one assist.

Story Michaud, Joe Skowronski and Jake Lage also had outstanding games for Shawsheen Tech (10-1-1).

Tewksbury 1, Chelmsford 1

The Tewksbury High boys soccer team inched one point closer to a playoff berth with a 1-1 tie against Chelmsford.

Connor MacLean scored off a feed from Ameen Kalkhorn for the Redmen.

Chris Repucci had a strong game in net with seven saves for Tewksbury (2-4-3).
