Joseph Abruzi of Tewksbury, a member of the class of 2018, is one of 18 students spending the fall semester abroad at Assumption College's Rome Campus where the city and country of Italy become a living classroom.

Established in 2013, Assumption's Rome Campus provides students with a transformative experience during their semester abroad. The campus is located in a residential area where students become part of the neighborhood and interact and befriend authentic "Romans" and within walking distance to St. Peter's Basilica and other historical sites. The semester-long program offers students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the culture and history of the region. The unique courses, taught by Assumption faculty, take full advantage of all that the city--and country--has to offer. Faculty lead visits to culturally and historically significant locations in Rome, with the purpose of using the city itself as a classroom.

Travel is an important part of the Rome experience. Trips to other sites and cities are included in the tuition. Housing includes both classrooms and living accommodations, where students enjoy family-style meals in an elegant dining room prepared by an authentic Italian chef.

"In just two years, Assumption College has established a thriving campus in Rome, providing students a very unique opportunity to experience the city and all of Italy as part of a learning community where they live, study and travel together. This transformative adventure enables students to grow personally and intellectually as they explore the birthplace of the classic liberal arts tradition that influenced the development of Western Civilization. The Rome Campus is but one of the many distinguished programs Assumption offers students to help them discover their gifts and talents, which they then use to better the world around them," said Assumption College President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D.

Assumption College's Rome campus has been nationally ranked as a top-ten best study abroad program and is considered one of the most desirable study abroad opportunities in the United States because it provides students with a unique and personal experience.
