Tewksbury Lady Tigers had a tough loss last week against Lowell and were really hoping to come back in the win column. The game was an early start at Wakefield (8:30am) and as well the field was a tough turf surface where we saw the ball taking tough bounces all day. The game started off much in the Lady Tigers favor. We had many plays where the starting offensive line of Molly Cremin, Ava Piccolo, and Vanessa Green were moving the ball into the Wakefield red zone numerous plays. Our starting midfielder Sarah Boone, kept the plays alive with great passes to the offensive line. We also had great stops by our starting goalie Erica Spurr throughout the first half. Finally with literally seconds on the clock Ava Piccolo netted our first goal. She was assisted by Ailiani Padilla and Megan Haley. The second half we were again controlling the ball. Our defense stood strong with Rebecca Langone, Courtney Rowe, Evelyn Johnson, and Emily Zadig helping out. We did switch out our goalie Erica with Ava Piccolo to give Erica some field time. Erica made an amazing corner kick that ALMOST resulted in a second goal for the Tigers. Later a missed roughing play against our defense distracted our goalie Ava, and Wakefield was able to tie the game. We held on for the hard earned tie. The girls are ready to finish off their amazing season next week in a rematch against Westford- the current divisional leader.
Tewksbury BU10-3 3 vs. Dracut 1
The Tewksbury Boys U10-3 team beat Dracut 3-1. Cade Barron and Matthew Slagle beautifully worked a combination play off the opening kick to score seconds into the game. After the goal, Tewksbury maintained much of the possession. Forwards Noah Healey, Greg Mercado, and Ryan Winter kept the ball in Tewksbury’s offensive half. Late in the first half Dracut earned a free kick just outside the penalty box and capitalized on the opportunity to even the score. Tewksbury was able to gain the lead again when Ryan Feudo took a throw-in from Slagle and blasted the ball to the back of the net. A few minutes later Edward Doyle gained possession just outside the Dracut penalty box. Doyle’s shot ricocheted off the defense and found its way into the goal. Solid defense from Bryce Pare and Nathan Laboy prevented Dracut from threatening the Tewksbury lead.
