Veteran Derek Welch: Re-Integrating Into Civilian Life Difficult For Many (Video)

The Tewksbury native served six tours of duty, five in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, during his seven years as a U.S. Army Ranger.
But as challenging as his time as a Ranger was, and as well-trained for survival and combat as he was, he was not fully prepared for the challenges he faced trying to re-integrate into civilian life when he left the military in 2013.
On Wednesday, Welch was the guest speaker at the Tewksbury Veterans Day Ceremony and spoke candidly about the need to do more to help veterans who are having difficulty transitioning to civilian life.
