Alternative Christmas Gift Ideas: Give A Gift That Will Make A Real Difference

Are you in search of a unique gift idea for the person on your list who seems to have everything? Take a look at our list of Alternative Christmas Gifts benefitting local organizations that serve neighbors in need.

  • Tewksbury Community Pantry Donate individually packaged school snacks to children who are served by the Food Pantry. Some examples include: pretzels, fruit snacks, crackers, and juice boxes.
  • Solomon Mental Health 978-322-5000 This residential psychiatric facility for children ages 5-18 near Lowell General Hospital is always in need of new underwear, t-shirts, sweatpants (no strings) and socks.
  • Community Giving Tree Check out CGT’s Amazon Wish List (link found on their website) and have items like diapers, soap, socks and underwear delivered directly to their door in Boxford.
  • MSPCA at Nevins Farm Provide gift cards to WalMart, Staples, Dodge Grain, Dover Saddlery, Home Depot and local supermarkets so that Nevins can purchase animal, office and cleaning supplies.
  • Neighbors in Need Deliver food donations to their Andover warehouse which will then be shared with clients in the Greater Lawrence area. Ideas include: pasta, tuna, soup and beans.
  • Veterans Northeast Outreach Center Do something special (baking, Christmas caroling, performing, giving) for one of the many residential units managed by VNOC in Bedford, Haverhill, or North Andover.
  • Tewksbury Habitat Build Donate in celebration or memory of a special relative or friend, and a custom card will be printed and mailed to your intended recipient. Home For The Holidays, indeed!
  • Place of Promise Give the gift of a happy summer by sponsoring a local child’s participation in the Kids of Promise Summer Camp for elementary and middle school-age children in Lowell.
  • Tewksbury Council on Aging Donate items or funds to support the Elder Brown Bag Program, a supplemental food assistance program provided to senior adults or disabled adults living in Tewksbury.
  • Heifer International Provide the gift of an income-sustaining animal (goat, chicken, cow, llama, pig, etc…) to a family who will then provide that animal’s offspring to yet another family.
